Have you ever had to go to summer school? If you have, you know what it’s like. If you haven’t, believe me, you don’t want to find out.

While all my friends are going to summer camp, going on vacations, going to the beach and picnicking, I’m stuck here in the house trying to finish my lessons. Since I started homeschooling mid-year, in order to get full credits I have to finish during the summer instead of getting out of school at the end of May or the first of June like most of my friends. It really SUCKS!

In my economics class, I am learning about business partnerships and about Jerry Yang and David Filo who created “Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle”: Yahoo. In environmental science I am learning about how the confining of animals in large pens leads to increased antibiotic immunity in humans since the animals are fed antibiotics in their diet, and then the animals are slaughtered and consumed by people. And in creative writing I am learning about Chang-Rae Lee, a man born in South Korea who immigrated to the United States and is now a successful author.

My friend Heather has already been camping on the Oregon Trail. Now she is at a leadership seminar, then she’s off to Switzerland. She plans to stay there until just a few days before school begins.

My other close friend who lives in Las Vegas has been going to all kinds of events; plays, movies, etc. She and her mom put off their vacation until the end of this month, when they plan to go to Chicago. I guess it’s sort of a working vacation as she and her mom are giving a presentation on Braille music.

But, I am happy to be homeschooling, so I guess it all works out in the end. And next year I won’t have to do summer school, unless Mom flunks me!!

I do hope all of you are enjoying your summer! Be sure to wear your sunscreen, as I read recently that skin cancer is becoming more common in young women. And stay out of those shark infested waters!! Until next time, wishing you happy days!!
